Orchestra of Opera North

From Rail to Stage
Join the Orchestra of Opera North aboard the Hippodrome Express on a musical journey inspired by the 200th anniversary of the Stockton to Darlington railway!
The orchestra perform music inspired by the railway alongside pieces that influenced some of the legendary artists the railway bought to Darlington Hippodrome. From Villa-Lobos’s enchanting The Little Train of Caipira and Aaron Copland’s stirring fantasy, John Henry to Tchaikovsky’s ravishing music for the ballet Swan Lake, this musical journey will entertain and uplift.
The evening will feature a brand-new piece created by Darlo Creates participants from local schools to celebrate the railway anniversary, alongside a performance of Song of the Skerne — a heartfelt tribute to our local river, written by the Darlington community in 2021.
