OSP Presents: Other Side Festival - Psych All Dayer - Featuring: Cult Of Dom Keller + Maquina + More
Since 2007, Cult of Dom Keller has been leaving a trail of sonic fever dreams and head spinning experimentalism that pulls you into their dark psychedelic world and spits you out again. a kay hole that began all those years ago ,when the universe pulled together these misfits through a series of strange events that eventually resulted in late night jamming in an old bombed out church cellar , creating something akin to a stoned Black Sabbath playing The Velvet Underground. Before long it was these hazy jams that slowly began to form into the songs that would become the group’s early EPs that bang to grab the attention of music organisers and record labels in the underground and soon the band began to convert people to their cult… Tours of the UK, Europe and the US followed and the band was soon sharing the stage with the likes of legends such as Roky Erickson, Spectrum, Silver Apples and The Sisters of Mercy, as well as contemporaries such as The Black Angels, The Warlocks and Fat White Family. Word was spreading and they soon became one of the first British bands invited to play Austin psych fest ( now Levitation ) and their self titled debut album was released on the aforementioned organisers own label ‘The Reverberation Society’ which then began a brilliant run of albums for the band ( on some of the most important underground & psych labels in music today) Cardinal Fuzz and Fuzz Club records respectively and the band was even championed by Iggy Pop on his Iggy Confidential show back in 2021 on BBC Radio 6. Up till now, the cult have released five albums, each that twist and turn to weave a different sonic tapestry from the previous release- as fierce experimentalists, no Cult of Dom Keller record has ever sounded the same (to quote the band: “Who wants to make the same record twice?“). As of 2024, the band are currently finishing their yet untitled sixth album, holed up in their sonic bunker , which promises even more of a twist in this time as they are currently working with left field legend Angus Andrew of Liars, to create something even more special…. The dynamic trio from Lisbon, comprising João (guitar), Tomás (bass), and Halison (drum + vox), made a significant impact on the Portuguese music scene with the release of their debut album on January 27, 2023. With their energetic performances that blend dance culture with heavy-hook songcraft, the band quickly gained a reputation among audiences. Drawing inspiration from repetition/minimalism-centered styles such as Krautrock and Industrial Techno, MAQUINA. fearlessly explores the boundaries of these genres by incorporating elements of rock and electronic music into their distinctive sound. The album "DIRTY TRACKS FOR CLUBBING" showcases a mix of pulsating beats, scuzzy bass riffs, and noisy guitars, challenging norms and pushing the limits of conventional music. They have successfully carved out a distinctive identity in the music scene. One of the standout features of MAQUINA.'s live performances is their commitment to authenticity and musicality. Unlike many electronic acts that heavily rely on machines and programmed beats, this trio challenges convention by excluding the use of machines and clicks during their concerts. Instead, they embrace the raw power of live instruments, providing an electrifying experience that resonates with the audience on a deeper level.
