Nigel and Ashley celebrate the work of Joe Pass and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pederson. After playing together with Oscar Peterson for some years, Joe and NHOP formed a partnership that, for many people, is the absolute pinnacle of the jazz guitar/double bass duo format. They recorded an album in 1979 called ‘Chops’. Nigel and Ashley will recreate the entire album! There aren’t many musicians out there who would be so brave as to take on this material but if anyone is going to attempt it, it’s these two. Expect fireworks… Nigel Price is a London-based guitarist widely acknowledged as one of the hardest-working musicians in the business. Musically, his blend of flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at the Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s recent album Keep Me Singing. Nigel is a regular performer at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club where he has made more than 600 appearances. His regular group, the Nigel Price Organ Trio, is widely acknowledged as perhaps the most prolific UK touring jazz band of the 21st century. Ashley John Long is best known as a virtuoso double bassist and composer, active in a diverse range of musical idioms including jazz and improvisation, early and contemporary chamber music, and as a soloist. He has performed and recorded internationally with some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians, as well as accompanying visiting international artists, whilst his work as a soloist has seen the premieres of numerous new works for solo bass.
