A celebration of music and songs in minority and Indigenous languages, Our Mother Tongue showcases an exciting line-up of artists who are proudly honouring their linguistic heritage while boldly pushing creative boundaries.

From the French-speaking province of Québec, firm festival favourites’ Le Vent Du Nord will showcase music from their latest album Voisinages, featuring the band’s characteristic call-and-response harmony singing and top-class musicianship. They’ll be joined by the dynamic Montréal-based trio É.T.É who make a welcome return to the festival with their ‘power chamber trad’, a compelling combination of Acadian and Québécois music. Making their international debut are Paruline, an indie-folk-trad project fronted by Charles Labrèche, who are already gaining acclaim for their lush Fleet Foxes-like harmonies and inventive take on Québec’s trad repertoire.

Representing the Scottish Gaelic tradition with her captivating, crystalline vocals is the award-winning singer Mischa Macpherson. From Wales, Gruff Rhys, the iconic frontman of Super Furry Animals and driving force in the ‘Cŵl Cymru’ (Cool Cymru) movement who will bring his Welsh-language songwriting centre-stage. And from Ireland’s Aran Islands, Padruig Jack offers lyrical and heartfelt storytelling in Irish Gaelic.

Our Mother Tongue promises to be a vibrant expression of cultural pride and linguistic resilience from a collective of artists who are grounded in tradition, yet unafraid to innovate, connect and inspire.
