Learn how to create beautiful and intriguing sketchbooks and mood boards whilst developing your own visual language and personal style. This could will help you deepen your approach to successful textile design and making and is ideal for people who are interested in textiles and interior design.

What will you learn on this course?

Sketchbooks are an important tool used by textile artists to develop new ideas, themes and subjects. They are a record of experimentation but can be works of art in their own right.

This course will introduce you to the art of creating successful sketchbooks and mood boards, and help you to develop your personal style, visual language and enhance your artistic practice.

During the course you will learn how to explore a theme or subject using a variety of mediums and techniques including:

• Successful composition of the sketch book page and mood board
• How to translate your ideas on to the page, with tips on how to enhance the presentation
• How sketchbooks are a useful tool for developing new ideas
• Learn how to create a range of fabric samples
• How to create 3 dimensional sketches
• Introduction to colour-theory and how that can have impact on your designs
• Working in layers and working with different art media to create effects.
• Drawing with speed and drawing techniques
• How to incorporate photographs, fabric samples and found objects in your sketchbooks.
• Create pockets and flaps and windows, and how to cut, joining and fold pages to bring excitement to your sketchbooks and boards.

The tutor will offer ideas and themes for you to explore, but you are welcome to work with existing ideas or projects you might have.

During the course she will demonstrate techniques which will be supported with examples to give you ideas and inspiration. Students will undertake practical exercises to learn and apply the technique themselves with individual guidance and support from the tutor.
Each lesson is a continuation from the previous one. Step by step, you will build skills and techniques

This is a relaxed, calming course which allows you to explore techniques and skills which will give you the confidence to develop even further.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to both beginners who have no sewing experience, and to improvers who are looking to develop their technical skills and inspire their creativity.

This course is accessible for people with disabilities who can undertake practical sewing activities including operating a sewing machine and using an iron. The room is wheelchair accessible. A support worker or carer may assist; carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support. Please contact us to discuss your specific accessibility needs.

Please bring a blank sketchbook, fabric samples or other items that you wish to add in to your work.
