Phil Ellis & Joe Kent-Walters: Work in Progress Two new hour-long shows in one evening from top comedians. Phil Ellis was nominated for the prestigious Sky Best Comedy Show at the 2023 Edinburgh Comedy Awards and won The Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality for Phil Elliss Excellent Comedy Show. The show was ranked in the top 20 best-reviewed shows of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023. He starred and co-wrote three series of his own BBC Radio 4 sitcom Phil Ellis is Trying, co-starring Johnny Vegas, Lolly Adefope, Amy Gledhill, Alexei Sayle, Sindhu Vee, Jack Dee, Lee Mack, Mark Lamarr and Sean Lock. The series was nominated for a BBC Audio Award in 2019. In 2014, Phil won the Edinburgh Comedy Awards panel prize with his anarchic, sleeper hit show Funz and Gamez. After meeting incredible critical acclaim, Funz and Gamez was broadcast as part of BBC Radio 4s Fresh from the Fest and BBC Comedy Feeds (BBC Three). The show went on to have an 18-show run at the Soho Theatre and all major UK comedy festivals. Phils TV appearances include The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), Roast Battle (Comedy Central) There She Goes (BBC Two), Drunk History: UK (Comedy Central), as well as writing and performing credits on BBC Threes The Tapeface Tapes and co-writing 3 comedy shorts for Dave. Joe Kent-Walters is a multi-award winning comedian and actor from Huddersfield. He has been delighting audiences up and down the country with his idiosyncratic style of outrageous character comedy, most notably with his comic creation Frankie Monroe. His mesmerising and unpredictable presence (Chortle) performing as Frankie saw him win the 2023 BBC New Comedy Award after a barn storming (Ibid) set at Glasgows Kings Theatre Joe is now in development with the BBC and is one of Jiksaws 2024 Faces of Comedy. Joes debut solo show (as yet untitled) has already played to sell out crowds in London, Leeds, Manchester and Hull where the crowd deservedly gave the act a standing ovation (RichComicLife Blog). The show is due to play at comedy festivals across the country including Leicester, Machynlleth, Hastings and Glasgow where it has been included in the Skinnys Five under the radar picks for the festival. Prior to his BBC success Joe won the 2021 Chortle Student Comedy Award which saw him play the main comedy stage at Latitude festival and tour Australia, performing at the Sydney Comedy Store. Joes double act The Lovely Boys have also been causing a splash in the UK alternative scene. Their eponymous 2022 debut show recieved critical acclaim and cult status with The Scotsman praising them for their Tremendous knockabout chemistry. They now run a regular & friends gig at Hackneys Moth Club with Knock2Bag.
