Moonlight Concerts invite you to join acclaimed concert-pianist Matthew Shiel as he takes centre-stage in Rachmaninoff's breath-taking and fiendishly difficult second piano concerto - a experience that leaves many an audience-goer speechless!
Rachmaninoffs beloved Piano Concerto No. 2 is an odyssey for piano and orchestra an odyssey through Rachmaninoffs subconscious mind. Its composition was instigated by Dr Nikolai Dahl who creatively cured Rachmaninoffs depression by successfully hypnotising him into composing a piano concerto. It is possibly the only masterpiece of classical music to be dedicated to their therapist.
A show-stopping pianistic spectacle, this concerto subsequently found the attention of Hollywood producers and it has featured in several Hollywood blockbusters including Brief Encounters (1945) and The Seven Year Itch (1955), starring Marilyn Monroe.
Join Matthew for an unforgettable evening of piano excellence and emotional storytelling at St Vincent's Chapel - dating from 1857, it is one of Scotland's magnificent chapels and an architectural icon.
