Queer Life Drawing

Queer Life Drawing
Welcome to Queer Life Drawing! This is a fun, safe, relaxed social space that runs monthly, where everyone is welcome! Whether youre an experienced artist or just fancy doodling around, this is a great place to make art and meet new people! All of our models are queer with a broad range of body types. We are here to celebrate the beauty in all bodies! Poses will range from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. The session is 90 minutes long. There will be a break part-way through. If you fancy a challenge, there will also be little drawing exercises you can take part in if you wish. FAQ Is there a livestream option? Unfortunately we will not be livestreaming this event. However we can recommend many amazing life drawing streams including Life Drawing Rubyyy, Queer Life Drawing, ELSC presents Life Drawing, Fat Life Drawing, Trans Life Drawing, and 2B or Not 2B Life Drawing. How are you making this event COVID-safe? We're committed to making our events as safe as possible for everyone attending. If you're showing symptoms of COVID, or testing positive on a lateral flow on the day of the event, please do not attend. We understand these tests are no longer free, and we do not want the cost to be prohibitive, so proof of a negative test is not currently a requirement to attend our events. Additionally, with the lifting of the mask mandate our venues are no longer enforcing the wearing of face coverings. However, we will be using large, airy venues and maintaining social distancing where possible to prevent the spread of illness. Some things that you could do to support this include: - Taking a lateral flow test on the day of the event, if you're able to do so. - Continuing to wear a face covering, especially when moving around a venue. Please be mindful that not everyone can wear a face covering, and not all disabilities are visible. - Maintaining social distance from other people, and ask permission before getting close to people. - Continuing to wash or sanitise your hands regularly. Please also contact us via email if you start showing symptoms in the days after an event: [email protected]. Thank you for helping us keep our queer spaces safe for all! Do I need to be queer to attend? Not at all, but you need to respect that this is a space by and for queer people. We will often be spotlighting trans and gender non-conforming models. Avoid assuming anything about a persons gender or sexuality based on their body. Here is a handy guide on how to be an ally to trans and gender non-conforming people: https://www.glaad.org/transgender/allies Do I need to bring my own materials? We will be providing drawing boards, pencils, charcoal and cartridge paper which you are welcome to use. You are also welcome to bring your own materials. Why is this space necessary? There arent a great deal of queer events in Oxford. We need safe spaces where we can express ourselves without fear of harassment and be celebrated for what makes us different. Its also important to celebrate queer bodies in spaces where the models feel like they will be seen and respected. How can I become a model for you? The only requirements to be one of our models are to be queer and over the age of 18. We make sure all of our models are paid above the average life modelling fee. If you are interested please contact [email protected]. Please note we will be prioritising applications from marginalised bodies including people of colour, trans people, disabled people, and fat people. How can I access a free supported ticket? Just drop us an email on [email protected]. There is no need to explain why you need a free ticket - weve got you. ACCESSIBILITY The building has step-free access and we are based on the first floor, accessible via stairs and lift. There is a disabled toilet available. There are both chairs and floor cushions available. If you have any specific accessibility requirements please get in touch on [email protected]. For further information on the venues accessibility, please click here: https://www.accessable.co.uk/oxford/oxford-city-council/access-guides/south-oxford-community-centre POLICY This is an inclusive space that welcomes people of all ages (18+), genders, sexualities, races, religion and identities. We will ensure that the bathroom in the venue is gender neutral for the event. We will not tolerate any kind of homophobia, transphobia, sexism, racism, ableism, fatphobia, biphobia, femmephobia, or non-consensual touching. Any behaviour of this sort will result in expulsion from the event without refund. Treat everyone with respect and we'll send that love right on back to you
