Rail Ale Trail

Does chugging through lush valleys and pretty villages, stopping at some of the finest drinking establishments en-route to sample a pint of locally brewed ale sound like the ideal way to spend a day? Then embark on this Rail Ale Trail!
Aboard our steam and diesel trains we'll guide you through the history and heritage of the local area - with a particular focus on the region's long brewing traditions and the people who have shaped the towns and villages over the centuries.
You'll meet your tour guide on Platform 3 & 4 at Bolton Street Station, Bury at 10.15 before taking the steam train to Ramsbottom. Here you'll enjoy a brunch sandwich and half a beer (or tea/coffee), before having time to explore the towns pubs.
Back on the steam train, you'll travel to Rawtenstall, with half a beer and a pie for lunch and opportunity to visit a pub. Your diesel hauled journey brings you back to Bury at 16:05 for a final beer stop at the Trackside bar on Platform 2, or stay on the train for a return trip to Heywood.
