The Sustainable Restaurant Association invites you to Real Talk: The Future of Fair Coffee in Hospitality on Wednesday, 14th May from 9:30am to 12pm at Tate Modern's Terrace Bar. Wholesale coffee prices are trading near a 50-year high, and yet poverty is pervasive amongst small-holder producers around the globe. Coffee drinking has continued to grow year on year particularly in the UK, where coffee consumption now exceeds that of tea without an end in sight. And yet, the average age of a coffee farmer around the world is over 50. Coffee farms are at the coalface of the climate catastrophe, with droughts, floods and unstable weather devastating crops. Despite decades dedicated to creating fairer supply chains, not a lot has changed. This morning session is designed to challenge hospitality businesses to think differently, cutting through the buzzwords surrounding sustainable coffee and offering solutions and examples of how to participate in a fairer system that delivers meaningful impact for people and the planet. We have an amazing panel of experts joining us from around the world, ready to cut through the noise and get real. The event kicks off with a panel moderated by Juliane Caillouette Noble (Managing Director, The Sustainable Restaurant Association), featuring industry leaders Tyler Youngblood (Founder, Sustainable Coffee Buyers Guide & Founder & CEO, Azahar Coffee), Ghilyon Welby-Watson (Head of Coffee, Tate) and Ava Mees List (Head Sommelier & Beverage Director, Noma). The panel will be followed by networking (over coffee, of course!) for a chance to continue the conversation and make new connections. This event is exclusively for those working in the hospitality industry. Guests can access the Terrace Bar at Tate Modern via the Blavatnik Building, Level 1. The entrance is located at the corner of Holland Street and Sumner Street, around the back of the building.
