Rehearsed Reading: Labour of Love by James Graham

CLT presents our 2026 Summer Production, 'Labour of Love' by James Graham.
Join us for a rehearsed reading of this witty political comedy that won best new comedy at the 2018 Olivier Awards.
From the author of TV's Sherwood and many acclaimed theatre productions including: This House, Ink, Dear England, and most recently Punch.
Labour of Love follows MP David Lyons, parachuted into Parliament with Tony Blairs generation of centre-left politicos focused on electability and effectiveness. His local office director, Jean Whittaker, firmly believes in the pro-union, far-left policies that have historically served his constituency deep in the heart of British coal country a district that in 2018 just might turn conservative for the first time in a century. Unfolding over decades, across multiple election nights (from John Smiths 1992 Labour party to Corbyns 2017 one), through economic booms and busts, this wickedly funny clash of values and class reflects a shifting political landscape that will resonate for anyone asking, Whither the Democrats?.
