URTEX is a collective of music makers and researchers who explore digital music improvisation in performance, education and cross-disciplinary contexts. Led by Panos Ghikas and Dan Herbert, URTEX came out of the development of Unrealtime, an innovative digital music improvisation software that enables instant sonic play through a simple and adaptable improvisation interface. Music made using Unrealtime has been performed on stages internationally, broadcast many times on BBC radio, Irish, German and Dutch radio, used in educational workshops, and audiovisual events.
