Rite Of Passage

A Nigerian actor arrives in the UK for the first time no prior visits, no preview and writes down everything that surprises him. Thirty days. Thirty shocks. One man, one suitcase, and a very confusing bathroom light.
Rite of Passage is a 75-minute solo theatre experience about the West African immigrant experience in Britain. Written and performed by Akah Nnani a celebrated Nigerian actor and global talent who relocated to the UK in 2025 the show moves between stand-up comedy, physical theatre, and emotional storytelling, switching between Pidgin English, Nigerian humour, and the dry bewilderment of a man trying to understand why British dogs refuse to bite anyone.
Funny, political, and deeply human Rite of Passage is the show the African diaspora in Britain has been waiting for. And for everyone else, it is a comedy about what it costs to start over, and what you find when you do.
Every performance includes a post-show community conversation hosted by Akah Nnani.
Running time: 75 minutes plus post-show Q&A
Suitable for ages 14 and above
"There is a clear voice and a strong observational lens running through it. The diasporic perspective is accessible and there are moments that land well, particularly around family and memory." Mojisola Kareem, Artistic Director, Utopia Theatre Sheffield
