Rough Trade Recommends presents: Baba Ali, The Itch and CHEWY SHE. Rough Trade's monthly new music showcase returns with some of the best up-and-coming acts in the alternative scene. Baba Ali Baba Ali is a dynamic musical artist known for blending post-punk, electronic, and funk influences into a sound that's both raw and innovative. Originally from the U.S. and now based in London, Baba Ali began making waves with his electrifying performances and distinctive style. Armed with gritty synths, sizzling guitar, pulsing rhythms and a soulful vocal delivery, Baba Ali's music explores themes of seduction, escapism and dystopia to help you dance away the pain. The Itch The Itch’s pairing of undulating dancefloor fillers and disenchanted pop songwriting quickly saw their name passed from one gig goer to another as word spread about an act tessellating New Romantic and rave influences on the capital’s sticky-floored circuit. More live bookings ensued, from support slots which threatened to hijack the limelight to a tide of offers from major festivals including End of The Road, Wide Awake and Latitude - all before the release of 2024’s debut single, ‘Ursula’. Steering the project are Georgia Hardy and Simon Tyrie. After meeting as teenagers at an open mic night, the two swapped music recommendations online, exposing each other to new genres and a collaborative relationship blossomed. They learnt to DJ and put on club nights in their hometown before moving to London where they began writing, recording and producing music themselves in their makeshift home studio, leading them to develop a style that’s uniquely their own. chewy she CHEWY SHE is an electro-disco-punk band from London, blending glittery disco grooves with punk rock energy. Known for wild, immersive live shows that mix humor, absurdity, and feminist themes, their performances feel like a chaotic, campy fairytale where the audience is part of the action. With sold-out shows and support from BBC Radio 6's Cerys Matthews, they’ve toured the UK, challenging norms and making you dance while questioning everything-all with a wink and a killer outfit.
