Round About Two Thirty: Germana Stella La Sorsa
This event has been archived!

Germana Stella La Sorsa’s voice has been described as “powerful when required, but also capable of great variety and soulful subtlety” (Jazz Journal). The Italian singer released her debut album Vapour in 2021 (33Jazz Records) and melds her disparate influences in her second studio album, Primary Colours, released in January 2024.
Praised as “a sure-fire statement of her confident stature amongst London’s top jazz cats” (Presto Music), La Sorsa’s new work continues to ride the contemporary/avant-garde jazz wave, further exploring the boundaries of improvisation and sound experimentation, drawing upon modern sounds and grooves, from drum’n’bass to Latin music.
For this concert, La Sorsa is joined by Sam Leak on Hammond organ, Tom Ollendorff on guitar and Jay Davis on drums. The band will perform a selection of the singer’s originals from her releases and arrangements of tunes by Hermeto Pascoal and Frank Zappa.
“La Sorsa’s raw and striking vocals are prominent in the musical mix, with her impressive scat moments driving the compositions forward.” (Jazz in Europe)
“Her use of wordless vocals as well as her fine lyrics, and the impeccable arrangements for, and playing of the trio, have made ‘Primary Colours’ a frequent visitor to my CD player.” (Jazz Views)
“Contemporary jazz with bite and soul that is a lot of fun from the first to the last note!” (Virgin Jazz Face)
