Running The Room: Directing for Fringe - RIPE Festival 2026
Running the Room: Directing for Fringe
Saturday 20th June - 16:30-18:30
Learn the essentials of directing fringe theatre in this collaborative and practical workshop for directors, actors and theatre-makers alike.

Running the Room: Directing for Fringe is an energetic, hands-on workshop exploring the skills, mindset and creative approaches needed to direct exciting small-scale theatre.
Whether you are an emerging director, an actor interested in leading projects, or a theatre-maker wanting to sharpen your collaborative process, this session will guide you through the fundamentals of taking work from page to stage.

Participants will explore rehearsal techniques, visual storytelling, text work, working with performers, staging choices on a budget and creating compelling theatrical moments with limited resources. Through practical exercises and collaborative tasks, this workshop will focus on how directors communicate ideas clearly, shape performances and build a creative rehearsal room where experimentation can thrive.

Inspired by the fast-paced and inventive world of fringe theatre, this workshop celebrates playful leadership, ensemble collaboration and imaginative problem-solving. Participants will leave with practical tools they can apply to their own projects, rehearsals and future productions.
