Save the Date: St David's day talk - Victorian Migrants from Wales to North Staffs

A special talk for St David's day by Stuart Haywood.
About the talk
Stuart Haywood is the current Chairman of The Stoke-on-Trent & District Welsh Society and has undertaken extensive research into the migration of Welsh people to North Staffordshire, chiefly during the Victorian era. This was used to compile his book The Welsh in North Staffordshire, which has been described as excellent and a comprehensive study by local historians. His presentation gives an overview of the Welsh Colonies in the area. During the Victorian era there was significant migration from Wales to England and this presentation concentrates on the locations within North Staffordshire where the migrants settled. The incentives to move are examined, as well as how they created Welsh Colonies in the area. The sources used for the presentation includes Welsh and local newspapers, Welsh journals, Welsh and local history books plus census data.
