The heartfelt and hauntingly beautiful Violin Concerto was one of the very last pieces Schumann created in his tragically short life. Though rarely performed, it’s a work of great intimacy and Romantic richness – qualities that also shine through in the vibrant, thoroughly entertaining Overture, Scherzo and Finale. In between, Marwood showcases his exceptional skills in the witty First Violin Concerto by the teenage Mozart, and surveys the grandeur and brilliance of the overture to Handel’s dramatic 1709 opera, Agrippina.
