Self-Promotion & Booking Gigs with Ewan MacPherson
Join acclaimed musician Ewan MacPherson for an inspiring workshop and creative discussion which will explore ways traditional musicians can promote themselves in todays fast-paced and competitive global and local music scene. Throughout the workshop we will consider: - How do I go about getting a gig? - How do I get an agent and do I need one? - Should I self-promote a gig? - How do I create a PR campaign? - How do I use social media to promote my music? - How do I build a tour? - Where do I stay when I'm on the road? Ewan MacPherson is a multi-instrumentalist and singer with over two decades of experience working at the forefront of the folk / trad music scene. He trained at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts before moving to Edinburgh in 1999, and is now based in the Highlands. He has taken to stages around the world with a wide range of traditional and contemporary folk / roots artists. He toured extensively with Shooglenifty for 13 years, is a founder member of Salt House, and was a past member of Malinky and Nu-Nordic Quartet Fribo. Ewan worked for Stoneyport Associates Agency in Edinburgh where he gained experience working under Dr John Barrow and Heather MacLead for some of the top folk / roots acts in Scotland. He also booked tours for US duo Chris & Thomas, Fribo, and his own projects. He was joint founder of Northern Streams Scandinavian Music Festival in Edinburgh with Maria Johanssen and ran it four four years. His most recent solo project album Hushman was described by KLOF Magazine as a little masterpiece of confidence and understatement. Wonderful.
