Pauds daughter Maggie has decided to run a summer guest house and is getting the house ready for the arrival of three guests; an English man Rodney Boswell, a German Willy Schneider and Miss Gwendoline Appleby Ross (who wants to be known as Madame Kristol). Paud is not in favour of the arrangement. Johanna OBrien, their housekeeper, a middle-aged, strait-laced spinster is appalled to learn she has to call Paud Mr McCarthy and Maggie Miss Margaret in front of the guests!
