Sustainable Coast - Paul Rose, Hugo Tagholm and Mike Cohen

What is going on with the sea? What do we want the sea to be? In Sustainable Coast you will have the unique opportunity to listen to and question three experts, Paul Rose, Hugo Tagholm (OCEANA), and Mike Cohen (National Federation of Fishermens Organisations), who are deeply concerned with our seas and oceans.
Paul Rose is at the front line of exploration and one of the worlds most experienced divers, field science and polar experts, Paul Rose helps scientists unlock and communicate global mysteries in the most remote and challenging regions of the planet. He is an experienced television presenter and radio broadcaster. With a proven track record in business engagements, Paul is a sought-after speaker, chairman, host and moderator for industry, government and NGO events. Former Vice President of the Royal Geographical Society and Chair of the Expeditions and Fieldwork Division, Paul is currently Expedition Leader for the National Geographic Pristine Seas Exhibition. He was the Base Commander of Rothera Research Station Antarctica, for the British Antarctic Survey for 10 years and was awarded HM The Queen's Polar Medal. For his work with NASA and the Mars Lander project on Mt Erebus, Antarctica, he received the US Polar Medal.
Hugo Tagholm is the UK Director of Oceana, former CEO of Surfers Against Sewage, and a prominent marine conservationist. The oceans connect us all. They cover two-thirds of our blue planet and contain most of the life on Earth. They are as important to us as they are vast.
But the oceans face many threats from overfishing, habitat destruction, oil and plastic pollution, and the killing of threatened species like turtles, whales, and sharks. Oceana develops science-based policies in important coastal countries that rebuild abundant and biodiverse oceans.
Mike Cohen (National Federation of Fishermens Organisations) returns to Big Ideas by the Sea to bring the Fishermen's perspective on the future for our seas. Mike has a legal and science background, as well as helping to form and lead the Holderness Fishing Industry Group for 7 years. He has also held the position of Chairman of the NFFO and is widely known and respected throughout the fishing industry. The NFFO continues to strive to help manage and improve the environmental footprint of the fishing industry and to ensure that the public are made aware of what is distortion versus the truth about the sustainability of fishing.
