The naturalist and author Arnold Whitworth (A.W) Boyd - Cheshire's very own Gilbert White - lived from 1885-1959. Boyd was an important contributor to The Guardian Country Diary and author of the books The Country Diary of a Cheshire Man (1946) and a volume in the celebrated New Naturalists series - A Country Parish (1951).
