Talk: Simon Barnes

Author and Journalist Simon Barnes talks about his most recent book 'Spring Is The Only Season' and some of the ideas involved love, religion and poetry as well as butterflies, birdsong and climate.
'Spring is not so much a season as the meaning of life at least it is to all of us who live in the seasonal lands. I have walked in rainforest, in desert and in the African savannah and that has taught me that there is no greater miracle on earth than the coming of spring.
Spring can be found in birdsong, in the awaking butterflies and in the quickening of the land as the returning light and warmth sparks the growth of plants. Spring can also be found in great festivals of religion, ancient custom and sport. Spring is traditionally the time of love. Spring has been made still more vivid by the greatest artists that ever lived.
And me, I intend to celebrate every possible aspect of the spring, for, after all, hope springs eternal in the human breast.'
