The Actor As The Artist - RIPE FESTIVAL 2026

The Actor As The Artist - RIPE FESTIVAL 2026
The Actor as the Artist
Saturday 20th June - 12:00-14:30
A practical theatre-making workshop for actors ready to create, develop and perform their own original work.

What happens when actors step beyond a script and become the creators of the work itself? The Actor as the Artist is a fast-paced, practical workshop designed to empower performers at all stages of the theatre making process with the tools to write, devise and create collaboratively and playfully.
Across the session, participants will generate ideas, experiment with character, write original material and bring it to life in performance, all within one workshop.

Designed in collaboration with the Youth Board, this workshop focuses on helping actors discover their own artistic voice and build confidence as independent makers. Through improvisation, creative writing tasks, ensemble exercises and performance challenges, participants will explore how to turn simple ideas into dynamic theatrical moments. The workshop encourages bold choices, imaginative storytelling and playful risk-taking in a supportive environment.
Perfect for anyone interested in devising, creating original work or developing their creative confidence beyond traditional performance training.

After the session, head to Riverside studios for the first selection of performances at 15:00 as part of the RIPE festival.
