The Crucible by Arthur Miller

The Crucible by Arthur Miller
There is a murdering witch among us bound to keep herself in the dark. Let your enemies make of it what they will, you cannot blink it more

The Crucible is a brutal dramatising of the 1692 Salem witch trials, in which 19 people were hanged. Written during the wave of McCarthyism, it portrays the struggle for integrity amidst a climate of mass hysteria and ruthless judgement.

When a group of girls are caught dancing in the woods, they fend off punishment by accusing others of witchcraft. What starts as self-preservation spirals into mass hysteria: as accusations fly, the accused face impossible choices.
