The Daddy Long Legs Rides Again

Join artist Luciana Haill for a 1.3 mile guided walking tour with a unique augmented reality (AR) experience, revealing Magnus Volk’s sea-faring train Pioneer (The Daddy Long Legs) travelling the same route.
Starting at Banjo Groyne on the beach (cross the road and down the steps from Paston Place, Kemptown), this 1.3 mile guided walk reveals the history of the fragile train (1896–1901). Using the free Pioneer AR app (Android & iOS), participants will see and follow the full-scale train by scanning out to sea, the artwork is geo-tagged to its original tracks, right through The Strand in Brighton Marina.
Towards the end of the walk the augmented reality train will slowly loom over us in Brighton Marina, haunting its route to Rottingdean.
Capture time-travelling photos and experience history through AR, 5G, and Starlink technology. Experience history like never before.
Walking tour is flat, ending in Brighton Marina where public toilets and many food and drink options are available.
It is advisable to download the free smartphone app in advance, although not essential to take part and discover. Photography is encouraged and sharing to instagram.
