Set within a clinical drug trial, the story follows two volunteers who begin to fall in love while participating in an experiment testing the effects of a new antidepressant. As their feelings deepen, questions arise: are their emotions real, or simply the side effects of the medication? Blurring the line between science and the heart, the play challenges audiences to consider what it truly means to feel and whether love can ever be fully explained.

Marking a significant theatrical moment for the city, this production is the first time The Effect has been performed in Edinburgh in over ten years.
