The Hot Seats are a Richmond-based string-band quintet. That is Richmond Virginia!! Their original material is simultaneously hard to classify and instantly identifiable, combining the virtuosic soloing and tightness of bluegrass, the band-driven rhythm of old time, the jerky bounce of ragtime, and the swagger of good old rock and roll. Vocals, banjos, guitar, washboard, double bass, mandolin, fiddle and drums combine. Reviewers have attempted to pin them down as a bubbling fountain of virtuosic insanity and bonkers but brilliant.
