The Longest Yarn II: Britain at War

Building on the popularity of last years exhibition The Longest Yarn, Peterborough Cathedral is pleased to present its much-anticipated sequel, The Longest Yarn II: Britain at War.
This remarkable exhibition features 80 intricately crafted panels of wool art, each one metre in length, telling the story of life in Britain from the declaration of war on 3rd September 1939 to VE Day on 8th May 1945. Visitors will encounter key moments including the Kings Speech, the Blitz, D-Day, the bombing of major cities, the Home Guard, the Womens Land Army, rationing, and the resilience of communities across the country.
Alongside the panels, visitors will meet The Gang - eight life-size figures representing the people who carried Britain through the war, from a Land Girl to a Spitfire pilot, bringing these stories vividly to life within the Cathedral setting.
Please note that, due to the popularity and dwelling time of the exhibition, some queuing may occur. Booking your ticket in advance will help us keep waiting times to a minimum and ensure a smoother visit. Thankyou.
This event is being organised and promoted as a fundraiser in support of Peterborough Cathedral. All proceeds from ticket sales and associated event income will contribute directly to the Cathedrals charitable work, including the preservation of the historic building, the continuation of worship and music and the delivery of education and community programmes. By attending, you are taking part in a dedicated fundraising event that helps ensure the Cathedral remains open, vibrant and accessible for present and future generations. Thank you for your support.
