The Mozartists: Mozart Birthday Concert

The Mozartists’ revelatory MOZART 250 series continues with a concert celebrating Mozart’s 270th birthday.
This programme of works composed 250 years ago in 1776 includes highlights from Mozart’s incidental music to the play Thamos, King of Egypt, which contains some of the most dynamic and startlingly modernistic music that he ever wrote, and a symphony comprising four movements from his ‘Haffner’ Serenade – one of his earliest masterpieces but still curiously neglected and undervalued.
Also included are Mozart’s only concert aria for alto and an exuberantly festive symphony by Haydn.
Ian Page conducts his acclaimed period-instrument ensemble, joined by the exciting young countertenor Zheng Jiang.
