The Queen and I by Sue Townsend

Brilliant satirical play set in an alternate universe in1992, imagining a Britain where a Republican party wins the general election and abolishes the monarchy. The royal family, stripped of their titles and wealth, is relocated from Buckingham Palace to a gritty council estate in the Midlands, dubbed "Hell Close" by locals. The royals find it hilariously difficult to adapt to the new life as commoners. The play blends sharp social commentary with absurd comedy, poking fun at class divides and the monarchys place in society.
