Come along to Wakefield Library for an author talk. The School Inspector Calls, Gervase Phinn.
Dr Gervase Phinn – author, poet, broadcaster, lecturer, educational guru, after-dinner speaker and “born raconteur” (The Guardian) - is perhaps best known for his warm-hearted reminiscences (published by Penguin) about the life of a school inspector in the Yorkshire Dales and for his best-selling series of novels in the Little Village School Series with Hodder. Affectionately dubbed ‘the James Herriot of Schools’, Gervase has written a wide range of academic books, short stories, plays, children’s poetry and fiction. His latest novel, At the Captain’s Table, set on a cruise ship, has received five-star reviews. In 2004 he was voted ‘Speaker of the Year’ by the Association of Speakers Clubs and in 2018 received the Variety Yorkshire Legend Award. He is the former President of the School Library Association and is the President of the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama. He is patron of five children’s charities.
