Torbay Literary Festival: Louis Barfe

Torbay Literary Festival: Louis Barfe
09:15-10:15 Wednesday 12 August 2026 (Main Stage)
Louis Barfe presents an insightful and hilarious insight in the world of light entertainment.
Louis Barfe is probably the leading expert in the country on British television, radio and music in the second half of the twentieth century. His book on the record business: Where Have All the Good Times Gone? was described as Indispensable and truly exceptional by Q magazine. He has written definitive biographies of Morecambe and Wise, Ken Dodd, and Les Dawson. His history of light entertainment Turned Out Nice Again encompasses every game show, comedy and television spectacular youll have heard of, and a few you wont.
A contributor, amongst others to The Oldie, Private Eye and The Lady, an hour spent in his company is like a wonderfully funny trip down memory lane, back to a time when there were (at most) four television channels and people would sit round a TV or radio set together. This is the perfect way to put a smile on your face at the start of the day.
You can e-mail Louis questions in advance about any of his books, which he will be signing after the event. Please send questions to: [email protected]
