Unleashed Theatre Company Present: The Pitmen Painters

The Pitman Painters is based on an inspiring true story of the Ashington miners who embarked on one of the most unusual experiments in British Art as the pitmen learned to be painters. in 1934 a group pf miners and a dental mechanic hired a professor to teach an art appreciation class. Within a few years, their work was taken for prestigious collections and they were celebrated throughout the British Art World, but every day they worked, as before, down the mine.
The play celebrates that art belongs to everyone and, just as Unleashed believes, talent lies around every corner. This funny and heartwarming production from the playwright that brought us Billy Elliot is not to be missed.
