Verdi's Simon Boccanegra

In his revision of an earlier opera the now mature Verdi conjures up the atmosphere of the ancient port of Genoa whose Doges had hitherto been elected from the city's patrician families. Never before can statesmanship and class conflict have been more expertly depicted in music. Andrew Mayor, Zoë South, Gerard Delrez and John Upperton lead the cast with the Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of Midsummer Opera conducted by David Roblou.
