Cities are not just streets and buildings — they are shaped by the people who live in them. Communities grow through care, connection and shared spaces. They are also tested by division, inequality and change.

'Views of Glasgow' is a powerful new exhibition which combines paintings of Glasgow from The Hunterian collection with artworks, objects and archival material selected by members from the Woodlands community. The resulting dialogue explores how communities are formed, threatened and renewed.

Highlights from The Hunterian collection include paintings by Joan Eardley, Tom Macdonald, Danny Ferguson and John Quinton Pringle, alongside works by Fouzia Zafar, Annabel Wright, Blair Cunningham and Mitch Miller. 'Views of Glasgow' also features ceramics, textiles, video, a soundscape installation, oral histories, graffiti, collage and photographs.

From everyday encounters to expansive changes to the cityscape, the exhibition considers who owns space; the legacies of empire; shifting identities across Glasgow’s east and west; industry, pollution and the environment; and the importance of community spaces.
