Walk to Wellbeing: Greenlee Lough Boardwalk

Walk to Wellbeing: Greenlee Lough Boardwalk
Our Walk to Wellbeing Programme is an easy way to get out and get healthy in Northumberland National Park. West Tynedale Health Walk Leaders design and lead walks that are suitable for people wanting an easy introduction to the inspirational landscapes of the Northumberland National Park. This guided walk will take you around our wetland boardwalk at Greenlee Lough. Leaving Gibbs Hill Farm, the route follows the bridleway, heading towards Greenlee Farm. The walk then goes off right onto the boardwalks, where rare and wonderful fauna and insects are to be found (including stunning reed beds). The route continues along the boardwalk to Greenlee Lough, where we can visit the hide next to the Lough. Here, we can view the birds on the water, so binoculars would be a good idea to bring along. From there, we will walk up to Greenlee Farm and then follow the bridleway back to Gibbs Hill Farm. Distance: 3.85 miles Terrain: Good footpaths and bridleways, with a section of boardwalks. There are moderate ascents and descents and a couple of places where it is likely to be wet underfoot. In wet conditions the boardwalk can be slippery. Meeting place/walk start point: The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre. From here, we will travel together (in convoy) to Gibbs Hill Farm, where we will park and begin the walk.
