Walk to Wellbeing - Hadrians Wall West of the Sill
Our Walk to Wellbeing Programme is the easy way to get out and get healthy in Northumberland National Park. West Tynedale Health Walk Leaders and National Park Volunteers have designed and are leading walks suitable for people wanting an easy introduction to the inspirational landscapes of Northumberland National Park. This walk celebrates one of the central sections of Hadrian’s Wall. It includes some of the more picturesque sites and the highest point in the whole length of the Wall. We’ll meet at The Sill and take the Hadrian’s Wall bus to The Milecastle pub. The walk joins the Hadrian’s Wall trail at Cawfield’s Quarry, a much photographed location. From there it is an undulating route past three Roman milecastles and the highest point of the Wall at Winshields Crag to arrive at Steel Rigg for another classic view of the Wall and the Whin Sill. The views of the countryside are excellent throughout. From Steel Rigg the walk returns to The Sill to finish.
