William Doyle Performs Eiy's Total Strife Forever
William Doyle presents his Mercury Music Prize nominated debut album Total Strife Forever, released under his early moniker East India Youth. Hailed a “masterpiece” (The Sunday Times) and a “triumph” (MOJO), the release saw Doyle noted as “a major new British talent” (Uncut) and “a rare idiosyncratic talent” by The Guardian. This special hometown show is a warm-up for the record’s 10th anniversary performances at the ICA and festivals. In the decade since Total Strife Forever, Doyle emerged as one of the most experimental and exciting British songwriters and world-builders working today, and began releasing music under his own name. 2024’s art-pop odyssey Springs Eternal presents a panoramic view of the ecstasies and agonies of life in the 2020s, asking how we exist as fragile flesh and blood - our hearts beating and our minds racing - in an unprecedented, almost unimaginable time of runaway climate destruction and technological expansion. The critically acclaimed Great Spans of Muddy Time (2021) and Your Wilderness Revisited (2019) drew comparisons to Radiohead and Brian Eno and claimed their place on multiple year-end lists, with the Metro ranking the latter “among the best albums of the century”.
