Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra: Sibelius, Gipps & Strauss

The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra returns to Cadogan Hall for its first concert of the season with Ein Heldenleben, conducted by James Blair. The work is a dazzling display of Richard Strauss’ ability to tell a story through music, in this case seemingly portraying himself as the hero.
Sibelius chose to cast his country rather than himself in the starring role of his tone poem, Finlandia, which opens the concert. Ruth Gipps’ Horn Concerto is a family affair, written for her son as a showcase of his virtuosity. There is no doubt this will be on display once more in young star Annemarie Federle’s performance.
The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (YMSO) is the only symphony orchestra in the UK dedicated to providing free orchestral training, performance experience and professional development opportunities to musicians on the threshold of their professional careers.
