Youth Anthems #42 - Koo Koo

Youth Anthems #42 is here and it's a HUGE ONE!
There's a couple of changes to the usual gigs here but don't fret, they will be explained and they're all for good reasons!
Koo Koo [https://kookoo.pizza/] (formerly Koo Koo Kangaroo) were tipped off about our gigs by their pals in Play Date [https://www.iloveplaydate.com/] after their great gigs last summer, so asked if they could jump aboard one of our gigs whilst they were over in the UK to compereFrank Turner's Lost Evenings [https://www.gigsinscotland.com/festival/frank-turner-presents-lost-evenings/line-up] in Edinburgh.
How could we resist?! If you don't know Koo Koo then the best description I've seen is "The Beastie Boys meet Sesame Street" and that sums up their energy filled pop bangers pretty well. Each song is joined by a great dance (go on YouTube and look up Cat Party [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v= bFPdr5xmII&pp=ygUHa29vIGtvbw%253D%253D], Superheroes Unite [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok7V1pWtRzs] orPop See Ko [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbpzfnEQJjE] for starters!). They have 10 EPs, five albums and over 40 music videos (plus a compilation!) so there's plenty of tunes to get hooked on before the gig. They absolutely bring the party and have toured all over the world with bands like The Aquabats, MC Lars, Frank Turner, Kepi Ghoulie, Reel Big Fish and even on the Yo Gabba Gabba tour! We've therefore decided we're only going to have one support band so Koo Koo can do a longer set (change number one!).
However... that one support act is the return of one of our most requested returnees to Youth Anthems, it's the one and only Harrison Richards, AKAHarrison The Perceptionist! [https://www.perceptionist.co.uk/] Cast your mind back five years ago (Harrison can help you with this if you can't) when Harrison spellbound all of us with the help of his otherworldly assistant The Dark Wizard to perform feats of magic and mystery in front of our very eyes! Imagine what spells he has learnt since then?! Make sure you're down by 1:30pm to find out..!
The second big change is the venue. Wharf Chambers is unavailable that day so we're going to our pals at The Attic [https://www.instagram.com/theatticleeds/?hl=en], an incredible, accessible venue that some of you may know as the former Sheaf Street/Duke Studios venue (just on the other side of The Tetley so a short walk from the centre of town). It's also less than a ten minute walk from the incredible floating book shopHold Fast [https://holdfastleeds.co.uk/] (co-run by the bassist from Chopper!) so go get your browsing on before or after the gig (open 9am-5pm on a Saturday).
The third change (last one I promise!) is this gig does have a few more costs than normal so we've had to up the main ticket price (just for now!) to 6. HOWEVER. People under 18 are still 100% free (they need to be with someone 18+ to come along) and we'll have cheaper (4) tickets available for those of whom 6 is too much. All tickets will have the option of paying more so if you think this gig will be worth it and you can afford it then it will be more than appreciated. It's not that obvious of how to pay more if you can but when you select your tickets you can change the amount to whatever you like above the set minimum.
But most of all it'll be the Youth Anthems gig you know. It'll be an incredible, fun and joyful family friendly matinee gig in Leeds, suitable and welcoming for all from babies to grandparents and all in between. There will be the best vegan bakes in the known region from the ever wonderful That Old Chestnut, Nicky Bray will be your most wonderful compere, guiding you through the event, there will be a great bar, a colouring in station and it'll all be done in time to get home for tea!
Times for this gig are:
Doors: 1:30pm
Harrison Richards: 1:45pm
Koo Koo: 2:45pm
Curfew: 4pm
Get in [email protected] with any questions.
As ever, our gigs tend to sell out in advance and capacity is the same as ever for this one so get in there quick as I imagine this might sell out a little quicker than usual!
