It’s creaky, it’s dark and there are only three taps: Tennent’s, Best and Guinness. The Waverley has watched every pub trend from gilded kitsch to Scandi-chic and said ‘no ta’. If there isn’t a live jam session, comedy or whisky tasting on offer, then you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat on its narrow benches. Service is brisk, but they know their whisky and there’s a great selection of gin alongside bottled craft beers.
