Calvin Harris, Red Hot Chili Peppers and LCD Soundsystem to headline T in the Park 2016

Big hitters unveiled for festival’s second trip to Strathallan Castle
**UPDATE 29 Feb 2016**
Further acts have been added to the lineup, including: Chase & Status, Alesso, Oliver Heldens, Jack Garratt, Hannah Wants
Gather up all your friends, someone great is coming to Scotland in July. Even though people think they’re from England, they’re not: they’re North American scum. That’s right, LCD Soundsystem have been announced as part of the 2016 T in the Park lineup following a five-year hiatus / retirement, which ought to suffice for a mic drop, but we’re told these Red Hot Chili Peppers are kind of a big deal too.
As far as headliners go, the festival has bagged several more huge names, including local-boy-gone-stratospheric Calvin Harris, English rock supergroup the Last Shadow Puppets, dance trio Major Lazer, electro’s rockers Bastille, and the BRITS’ latest British Breakthrough Act, Catfish and the Bottlemen. This esteemed bunch join the already announced Stone Roses, Disclosure, the 1975 and Courteneers as part of the festival’s main draw cards.
The rest of the lineup effortlessly mixes the old and new, British and international, with Jamie xx, Kaiser Chiefs, Frightened Rabbit, Travis, Tinie Tempah, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Shed Seven (the 90s are so in right now) just some of the names jumping off the page. Eagle-eyed fans will note that the 2016 lineup is a bit thin on female-led bands or performers, with just Jess Glynne and Gabriela of Rodrigo y Gabriela representing – something organisers should address in 2017 [edit: see above update with addition of Hannah Wants].
‘We’re incredibly excited to announce some of the world’s greatest artists for T in the Park today,’ says Festival Director Geoff Ellis. ‘Red Hot Chili Peppers are quite simply one of the biggest rock acts of our time, and their long-awaited return to the festival after 10 years is going to be pretty special.
‘We’re also thrilled to welcome back a real T in the Park favourite – Calvin Harris – as our Saturday night headliner. Calvin headlined the Main Stage in 2014 and was introduced on stage by Will Smith, and for many in our audience that moment is up there as one of the most unique and special in T in the Park history.’
Not forgetting LCD Soundsystem, Eliss adds ‘their reunion is one of the most hotly anticipated in recent years, and their appearance is a big coup for us.’ LCD headline the BBC Radio 1 Stage on Sunday night, while Calvin Harris and the Chilis headline the main stage Saturday and Sunday respectively.
