Best cinemas to book tickets to see the new Star Wars film on the biggest screen possible

Excited about seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens but not booked tickets yet? Well, take our advice: how ever many times you plan to see it at your local cinema, one of those trips should be to an IMAX screening. Because when it comes to seeing the Force return to our lives, bigger is most assuredly better.

This being the first new Star Wars film in ten years, and the first sequel to the original trilogy in 32 years, you've got a reason to spoil yourself. That means luxury seating, and more screen real estate than a basketball court. Sure, it might cost a few extra quid, but this is Star Wars and we reckon this one is going to be worth it.

By our count there’s 39 IMAX screens around the country, from 15/70 mm 3D to digital projects, to Laser IMAX. What you'll find at each is an immersive experience in High Definition and audio designed to make your internal organs vibrate. And in case you’re wondering – yes, one sequence from The Force Awakens has been specifically captured on 65 mm cameras by director JJ Abrams and his cinematographer Dan Mindel: the Millenium Falcon chase through Jakku, as seen in the trailer. The rest of the film will be up scaled from 35 mm.
