RLS Day 2015: best Robert Louis Stevenson events in Edinburgh

How and where to celebrate #RLSDay around the city this 13 November

'The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean; not to affect your reader, but to affect him precisely as you wish.'

Robert Louis Stevenson clearly had a handle on this whole literature thing. Maybe that's why there's an entire day dedicated to him on November 13 (his birthday, don't you know). Here, we've picked five of our favourite events from the City of Literature's RLS Day programme (which actually runs from Mon 9–15 Nov).

RLS Way Walk
Walk this way if you want to follow in big Rab's footsteps. The walking tour leaves from the Hawes Inn, South Queensferry, walking along the Forth via Cramond, and eventually winding up at Corstorphine, Edinburgh.
Fri 13 Nov, Hawes Inn, 10.30am, free

A Mighty Bloodless Substitute
Edinburgh's Living History Group perform dramatised readings of some of Robert Louis Stevenson's works.
Fri 13 Nov, Writers' Museum, 1pm & 2pm, free

Stevenson on Screen: Scotland's Gift to Hollywood
And here we were thinking Scotland's gift to Hollywood was Ewan McGregor. At Stevenson on Screen, Andrew Martin, Curator at the National Library of Scotland explores all the Alan Brecks, Jekylls and Hydes and Long John Silvers that have graced the silver screen over the years.
Fri 13 Nov, National Library of Scotland, 2pm, free

Kidnapped: When Kilts Were Banned
Donald Smith’s adaptation of one of RLS' most famous tales: Kidnapped, told using two actor, a chest, and a load of imagination.

Edinburgh Gothic
As part of the Edinburgh Short Film Festival, Edinburgh Gothic features a special screening of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde (1920), which is pretty gothic indeed.
