11 perfect spots for outdoor drinks in Glasgow

Brel
37–43 Ashton Lane
Brel’s backyard is a multi-faceted masterclass of wooden beams and spotlights that sweeps up the hill behind Ashton Lane. It gets all the sun, has loads of shelter when needed, as well as fire pits and a top-notch sound system.

Brewhaus
182 Queen Margaret Drive
The mezzanine inside is famous for being where the Begbie pint-glass scene in Trainspotting was filmed. Out the back, a student-friendly garden with bookable private huts fills up fast in the summer and pretty much every item you’ve ever called ‘pub grub’ is available on the menu.

Chinaskis
239 North Street
While it’s all ultra-low lighting and ambience inside, Chinaski’s outdoor space is a split-level garden party. The impressive food strikes a balance between global small plates and pub classics, where za’atar-roasted cauliflower and Korean barbecue chicken jostle with smash burgers and hand-stretched pizzas as a trendy crowd lets loose.

The Record Factory
17 Byres Road
Hidden in plain sight just off Byres Road, The Record Factory’s beer garden is a rowdy mishmash of students, sports fans and Westenders where pints and Aperol Spritzes are the order of the day. Foodwise, they’ve teamed up with nearby Sears Pizza so you can have NY slices in the sun.

Stag & Thistle
778 Pollokshaws Road
Southsiders flock to Stag & Thistle when the sun breaks. Its proximity to Queen’s Park helps and there’s a sensitive layout to the seating, protected from the whizz of traffic by big, solid overhangs and foliage that blocks the elements too. All the while it keeps its lovely residential vibe.

Also try... West Side Tavern for block party vibes when the DJs are on, The Finnieston’s proper beer garden, Inn Deep’s outdoor-undercover set-up on the banks of the Kelvin, cocktails above the Merchant City at SiSi Rooftop, Mono’s courtyard suntrap out front or WEST On The Green’s hard-to-beat outdoor space at Glasgow Green.
