Party animals at the ready: Edinburgh's Hogmanay has just announced the programme for the three-day New Year extravaganza in the Scottish capital.

We've already heard about the Concert in the Gardens lineup: Biffy Clyro, Idlewild and Honeyblood take to the stage in Princes Street Gardens, and that gig is already sold out.

But the Street Party – the centrepiece of Hogmanay's celebrations – has plenty more music to offer revellers. The Waverley Stage will be headlined by Maximo Park, who'll be joined by Slaves and rising Glasgow band White. Scottish acts Rura and Peatbog Fairies take to the Castle Stage, along with Shooglenifty in a special 25th anniversary performance.

Elsewhere, Guilty Pleasures take to the Cabaret Stage. And on the Frederick Stage, 6 Music DJ Craig Charles presents his Funk 'n' Soul Show, alongside Edinburgh DJ Simon Hodge. The tunes will be broadcast across all the Street Party screens to innovative graphics from VJ’s Buttercup and Pixels.

Keilidh fans take note – this year, the popular event becomes The Old Town Ceilidh and moves to the Royal Mile. At 11pm, the Ceilidh will try to break the Guinness World Record for the world's longest Strip the Willow, in which hopefully over 2000 people will participate.

Of course, there'll be fireworks a-plenty too. From 9pm, there will be fireworks displays on the hour, working up to the Midnight Moment, when the world-famous Hogmanay fireworks will be lit from Edinburgh Castle and Calton Hill.

As ever, there's plenty going on at Hogmanay on either side of 31 December too. On 30 December, the Torchlight Procession will see 10,000 torchbearers walk through the streets of Edinburgh up to Calton Hill, where the Son et Lumière marks the end of that day's celebrations.

And on 1 January, revellers can shake off their hangover by heading to South Queensferry for the annual Loony Dook in the Forth – which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Scot:Lands returns on New Year's Day too; the programme for this exciting cultural tour of the Old Town will be announced in early November. As in 2014, Scot:Lands is free but you'll need to register ahead of time.
