Roots Manuva announces new album Bleeds

Rapper’s first studio album since 2011 is released on 30 Oct

It’s been a few years since we heard from Roots Manuva. His last offering 4everevolution back in 2011 charted at number 59 and since then, besides a couple of EPs in 2013 (Banana Skank and Stolen Youth), he’s been keeping his head down.

Now we know why: after teasing new single ‘One Thing’ on 12 Aug, Manuva, real name Rodney Hylton Smith, announced today on Twitter that his new album, Bleeds, will be released on 30 Oct.

Channelling a little bit of Kanye tongue-in-cheek, Manuva says of the record’s title: ‘[It’s an] egocentric jest of daring to do things in the tradition of Jesus: I’m ready to bleed for the artform.’ More than this, the word evokes music’s tendency to bleed across genres, something Manuva has used to his advantage, blending together hip hop, funk, neo-classical, techno and reggae, as well as collaborating with acts as diverse as Gorrilaz, Leftfield, the Maccabees and the Cinematic Orchestra.

Tracklist:
Hard Bastards
Crying
Facety 2:1
Don’t Breathe Out
Cargo
Stepping Hard
Me Up!
One Thing
I Know Your Face
Fighting For?

Bleeds is released on Ninja Tune on Fri 30 Oct 2015.
