With its spectacular interior and the neighbouring expanse of Pollok Park, Pollok House is an oasis of splendour just a stone’s throw from Glasgow city centre. This grand stately home is renowned for its Edwardian Kitchen Restaurant, elegant gardens and its fine collection of Spanish art, featuring works by Goya and El Greco. It’s also very popular with fashion photographers.

Thanks to its well-preserved period details, Pollok House was a filming location for the BBC’s Georgian-era legal drama, Garrow’s Law. Starring Andrew Buchan as William Garrow and Rupert Graves as Sir Arthur Hill, Garrow’s Law was broadcast from 2010 to 2012, and Pollok House was the outside of Sir Arthur’s home.

The property also features in an episode of classic Scottish comedy, Rab C Nesbitt – specifically, the 2014 New Year Special, in which Rab poses as a Robin Hood figure, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.

Pollok House certainly saw its fair share of aristocracy in its time; it’s the former ancestral home of the Maxwell family, once one of Scotland’s most politically important families. One of its residents was Sir John Stirling Maxwell, a founder of the National Trust for Scotland. Today, Pollok House, its garden and the celebrated Edwardian Kitchen Restaurant are open to visitors every day throughout the year.
