In the classic 1973 horror film The Wicker Man, Edward Woodward had to pilot a Thurston TSC-1A Teal flying boat to reach the fictional Hebridean island of Summerisle. Fortunately, its namesake festival near Dundrennan is much easier to locate.

Car
You need to find East Kirkcarswell, near Dundrennan, down the A711 and an hour from the M74. Sat nav users should type in DG6 4QW. Keep an eye out for traffic alerts from Traffic Scotland. Cars must use the designated car park, although blue badge holders can park their cars next to camping spots in the disabled camping area.

Car share
The days of thumbing a lift are over. High-tech hitchers can hook up with like-minded drivers (and vice-versa) via GoCarShare.

Bus
Wickerman have teamed up with festival transport specialists Happy Bus to offer journeys to and from the site. All buses to the festival are now fully booked, but should you require a ticket home you can speak to a member of staff on Sunday and take your chances. Return times are:

Dumfries: 10am
Aberdeen, Dundee & Stirling: 11am
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Livingston, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline & Paisley: 12pm
